The world is not what it seems.

Most people walk through their lives blind to the seams of reality fraying around them. But some of us were forced to see the distortions early.

I grew up in the shadow of a father lost to alcoholism, depression, PTSD and later the fractured static of schizoaffective disorder. I learned the language of loss when my mother’s life ended on a highway while I was still a small child.

Later, I spent years in the cold, clinical silence of the morgue—harvesting the eyes, skin, and bones of hundreds of dead bodies.

I have looked into the hollow spaces where a soul used to be. I don’t just write about the dark. I walk comfortably through it.
